A skipper wears many hats. As Captain, you decide what kind of racing program you want to build and you develop the crew. Wearing your administrative hat, you file the proper paperwork at the proper times. Equipment manager juggles checklist after checklist. And don’t forget your get-across-the-start-line hat! Draw on Amy Cermak’s skills on and off the race course to learn how to manage your race program. From large boats to small, distance races to closed course, and fleet to one-on-one match racing, her insights will make your race smoother.
Amy is an avid sailboat racer who skippers one design boats in Milwaukee, Racine, and Chicago. She has raced in various NOOD Regattas, Key West Race Week six times, and in the Chicago MAC. For 20+ years Amy has skippered a boat in the Milwaukee Bay Women’s Series, and currently Amy and her husband campaign their T10 on Lake Michigan. Amy is also the Rear Commodore of the Racine Yacht Club and Vice President of the RYC Youth Foundation. She coordinates and oversees the youth sailing program, AdventureSail® – a one-day sailing experience for girls – and a girls-only eight-day sailing camp, sponsored by AAUW (American Association of University Women-Racine) and Girls INC.
Skill level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
