Advanced Sail Trim
Whitney Kent

Picture
Excellent trim is useful for racing or cruising. Explore how and when to use advanced trim tools for optimizing mainsail and headsail trim in varying wind and wave conditions. You will explore how to keep your boat moving in light and heavy air, or critical conditions; how communication between trimmer and helmsman can be considered trimming, and when to apply the “rules of thumb.” Learn how halyard tension, boom vang, and lead adjustment are your extra tools. Note: Dockside/on-boat class. No beginners please.

Whitney began sailing dinghies at age 6 as a member of the South Shore Yacht Club Juniors Organization, where she later spent several summers as an instructor. During that time, she skippered the J30 Rafiki with success in the MBWSO Series and the Milwaukee Bay PHRF series. In college, Whitney was an active member of the sailing team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There she was Captain for two years as well as spending a year as Commodore of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association. Whitney now lives in Sheboygan, WI, where she works for the Sailing Education Association of Sheboygan (SEAS) as Program Manager and Race Coach of the Sheboygan Youth Sailing Center.  She spends as much time as possible racing sailboats with friends and family, and particularly enjoys the Chicago-Mac Race as well as competing at match racing events.
