Know When to Fold 'Em:
Preserve and Protect Your Sails
Mickey Nielson

You and your family are on your annual summer cruise. You actually have wind for a beautiful ride to your next destination. You are so happy you took this class – because you know which sail to put up to get the boat there the most effectively. And because you got great information on which sails to purchase for your boat, too! You smile as you raise the sail, satisfied that you were part of the conversation with the sailmaker, not just an observer. You know what is needed and know when to use it. Priceless.
Mickey entered the sailing scene with a vengeance and has not looked back. She’s sailed in numerous U.S. Sailing Championships, J24 and Melges 32 Worlds, 38 Chicago/Bayview Mac Races, Super Mac, 21 Queens Cups, Catalina 30 NA’s, Key West Race Week, NOODs, Double Handed Races, and the list goes on. She has raced on boats from 19’ to 70’ long. Mickey and her husband own a Star Class boat and an S2 7.9 Class boat, both of which they sail on the local, national, and international Levels. Mickey also volunteers at Nielson Sailmakers in Racine, WI.
Skill level: Intermediate, Advanced
