Know When to Fold 'Em:
Preserve and Protect Your Sails (double session class)
Mickey Nielson

Sails are an investment and should be treated accordingly. Learn the difference between a luff fold, leach fold, loft fold, fold for a racing hoist, and folding for winter storage. We’ll also look at spinnakers and the many ways they can be packed: turtles, snuffers, socks, and snakes. The discussion will touch on repair materials you should keep on board. This is a hands-on class. Be prepared to be on your hands and knees as the Windover Room becomes your foredeck!
Mickey entered the sailing scene with a vengeance and has not looked back. She’s sailed in numerous U.S. Sailing Championships, J24 and Melges 32 Worlds, 38 Chicago/Bayview Mac Races, Super Mac, 21 Queens Cups, Catalina 30 NA’s, Key West Race Week, NOODs, Double Handed Races, and the list goes on. She has raced on boats from 19’ to 70’ long. Mickey and her husband own a Star Class boat and an S2 7.9 Class boat, both of which they sail on the local, national, and international Levels. Mickey also volunteers at Nielson Sailmakers in Racine, WI.
Skill level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
